A season ending message from the General Manager:

We say goodbye to another memorable ice season. It seems like just yesterday that we began. Northshire Civic Center was excited to begin its 20th year in business. Thanks to all who’ve been a part of this successful ride. As for this past season, what an interesting ice season this was. I learned that no matter how important you think your business is, if you’re on the bottom of the totem pole you’ll have to wait to get your power restored. In the 27 years I’ve managed ice rinks, this was the first time I’ve ever lost ice – and I hope it never happens again. There was a silver lining in this however. It was humbling to see the ice community come together and support the rink in our efforts to get back to business. We will forever be grateful. On a financial level, we had the best year on record. This was helped in large part by our being asked to be a host site of The Bachelor Winter Games. They were fun to work with and if anybody was able to watch the finale’ episode, the rink looked fantastic! We were also fortunate to host a wonderful MLK youth hockey tournament. Thanks to all who made it such a successful event. We need more of these internal tournaments. Although the winter brought a ton of snow, the bitter cold forced people indoors and our Christmas break business was off the charts. We are so appreciative of the repeat customers who come visit us every winter.  We were also fortunate to host the U14 State playoffs. 6 out of town teams made there way to Riley Rink for a great weekend of hockey. I can still remember Stowe winning the title with 4.6 seconds left on the clock! Our Learn to Skate and JISP numbers were up and Martina continues to put out a wonderful product along with her dedicated instructors.  C League was as competitive as ever and Gamers Grotto defended their title. We finished up the ice season by hosting our second annual Top Shelf Classic adult hockey tournament. Five visiting teams made the trek from Troy, Albany, Boston and other locations to make up the six-team field. A great weekend of hockey and we look forward to the number of teams growing every year. Mike continued to pump out incredible food from the Overlook Café’ all winter long.  I need to extend a personal, heartfelt thank-you to my wife Lisa. Through all the chaos of running a rink, she keeps things running smooth – no easy task. I also want to extend a thank you to the wonderful staff that we have here at the rink. J.R., you keep the lights on and always seem to find the way to “figure things out”. We consider our customers family and I like to think our staff treats them as such. And as everybody knows, without our user groups we are nothing. BBA, NHA, Rusty Blades, and Main Street Hockey are why we do what we do.  Lastly, I want to remember the very special friend we lost in Tommy Morris. He was the one person who could bring a smile to my face no matter how difficult the day may have been. It was a blessing to have met Tommy. He will be missed but his spirit will truly live on here at the rink. It is a reminder that life is short, live it to the fullest. Hug those people closest to you and spread some love.

See you at the rink.

A warm welcome back to our wonderful ice family. We're excited about another action packed winter. As you will see (if you haven't already) we had a very busy summer making numerous upgrades to the facility. These are possible because of the faithful support of our community and user groups.
