Basic 1-8 and Snow Plow Sam Class Descriptions Below

Tot Hockey

Your child will learn how to sit and stand up independently on and off the ice.  March in place.  March forward 8-10 steps.  March, glide on two feet.  Dip in place while moving.  This is a great first class for a young beginner skaters and future hockey players 3-5 yrs.  Bubbles, toys and washable markers for drawing on the ice will be used to help children learn.

Snow Plow Sam 1-2

Your child will learn how to sit and stand up independently on and off the ice.  March in place.  March forward 8-10 steps.  March, glide on two feet.  Dip in place.  This is a great first class for a young beginner skaters 3-5 yrs.  Bubbles, toys and washable markers for drawing on the ice will be used to help children learn.

Snow Plow 3-4

The next level is to begin marching, followed by a long glide.  Dip while moving.  Backward wiggles, six in a row.  Rocking horse (one forward and one backward swizzle in place).

Children learn 8-10 forward skating steps/pushes.  Forward one foot glide R and L.  Forward swizzles 4-6 in a row.  Backward swizzles 4-6 in a row.  Forward snowplow stop with a skid.  Curves

Basic 1:

Children 5 years and older will learn the proper way to fall and get up from a kneeling position, skating forward across the rink without falling, gliding forward on two feet, forward two foot swizzles, snowplow stop and two foot hop and stopping.  We work on confidence while having a lot of fun!

Basic 2:

Backward skating on two feet, backward two foot glide, backward swizzles, forward one foot glide, two foot turn from forward to backward, forward one foot swizzles on a circle (in both directions), backward one foot snowplow stop.  We are starting to build on our skills.

Basic 3:

Forward stroking (utilizing correct use of blade and neat footwork), backward one foot swizzles on a circle, both directions, forward to backward two foot turn on a circle, continuous forward two foot sways (slalom), one foot snowplow stop (R&L), backward to forward two foot turn on a circle.

Basic 4:

Forward outside edges, forward inside edges, forward crossovers, backward one-foot glide, forward outside three turns.

Basic 5:

Back outside edges, back inside edges, back crossovers, back outside three turn, hockey stop.

Basic 6:

Forward inside open Mohawks, forward inside three turns, T-stop, Backward inside three turns, seven step Mohawk combination and the skater will be asked to choose and combine any three movements which they have learned in Basic Skills 1 - 6.

Basic 7 and 8

Forward inside open Mohawk, backward outside to forward outside transition on a circle, ballet jump, backward crossovers to backward outside edge, beginning scratch spin.  Moving forward outside and inside three turns, Right and Left.  Combination step sequence.  One foot spin.  Waltz jump.  Mazurka.

 

Adult / Teen and Specialty Class Descriptions

Senior Skate Cafe

Fun and learning go hand in hand in this community class of seniors.  We get together, we chat and we skate.  Professional instructors will teach safety first, pre skate stretches, and free coffee will be served.  Level of class will be dictated by participants.

Jump and Spin

Beginner jumps(waltz, toe loop and bunny hop) and spins(one foot, two foot, sit spins)will be introduced.  Depending on the level of your child, this class can be a wonderful way to inspire imagination and learn new skills.  If you have questions about your child's level or eligibility for this class please call/email Martina Grattan, Skating Director.

Intro to Figure Skating

Any skater with an interest in figure skating is encouraged to join our introduction to figure skating class.  Your child will practice and learn beginner freestyle elements (waltz, toe loop), spirals, strengthen their stroking skills, two foot and one-foot spins, pivots and many other new, fun elements.  This class is recommended for skaters on or above Basic 2.

Parent & Me

This fun class is designed with both mom/dad in mind. Children 3 to 5 years old have never skated before can have fun while learning with their parent.   The lesson will focus on the child while allowing the parent to participate.  Your child will learn how to fall safely and stand up independently.  March 10 steps across the ice.  Dip while standing in one place and hop.  Toys, markers, bubbles and other silly items may be used during the skating lesson since the focus of this class is fun, safety and learning new skills.

Homeschool Skate

This class is for all Home Schooled children that would like to skate together in a supervised and instructional skating lesson.   Home School classes will be tailored to the specific level of the children participating.  Class is on Tuesday at 11:00am.

Adult/Teen Basic 1 / 2:

Adults can enjoy learning how to skate with confidence and improve their skills in this fun class. The exact level will be determined by the students which attend.  First time skaters welcome.  Bring a friend.  You will learn how to fall safely and stand up, march and glide forward.  Others elements include swizzles, stopping, gliding and two foot turns.  Forward stroking, backward wiggles and slaloms.  If you would like to learn how to skate, now is your chance!

 

Intermidiate Adult/Teen

13+ yrs. Adults and teens can enjoy learning new skills and work on their confidence. The exact class level will be determined by the students which attend.  Crossovers, backward crossovers, stopping in many different ways and power skating will be introduced and perfected.  Hockey skaters and players welcome!
